Located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea (close to Slovenia), Trieste is a northeastern Italian city that combines beautiful sea views with an Austrian flavor (it was one of the oldest parts of the Habsburg Monarchy from 1382 until 1918). If you get a chance to visit, take a break at a cafe surrounding the harbor…and definitely visit Castello Miramare (one of the most beautiful castles I’ve ever visited).
